This addition to an existing weatherboard house in Melbourne's leafy North East was a two storey modular extension that is bold yet refined.
The open extension is filled with natural light, the double-height entrance space providing a clear demarcation between the old and the new.
The modular living area incorporates sustainably sourced blackbutt timber, with the screening providing additional shading and privacy to the residents. Many active and passive systems are integrated into the design to ensure efficient functioning and sustainability.
Clients were able to remain living in the home disruption free whilst the team was constructing the extension within the factory.
Four weeks prior to the installation date, the clients moved out, while the team went about with demolition and preparation. Installation of the modules occurred within a day and three weeks after fit-out and finishes, the clients were able to move straight back into the home.
